Enrolment FAQ

What is the deadline to submit valid visa documents for the Winter 2024 Term?

The deadline to submit a valid proof of visa approval document on the NCToronto Student Portal for the Winter 2024 Term is 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on December 4th, 2023. For more information, please visit our Important Dates webpage.

What are the accepted visa documents?

The proof of visa approval documents accepted by NCT for enrolment are:

  • Port of Entry Letter (POE) or
  • A valid Study Permit

It is important to note that not all Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued documents are considered proof of visa approval documents. A Biometrics Letter, Passport Request Letter (PPR) or Passport Stamp are NOT considered proof of visa approval documents for NCT enrolment purposes.

What is a Port of Entry Letter and how can I obtain one?

The Port of Entry Letter (POE), also known as Letter of Introduction (LOI), is a letter you may receive from IRCC if you have been approved for a Study Permit, and it is usually issued along with or shortly after the Passport Stamp. Below is a sample document:

I am currently in Canada and I have applied for a Study Permit renewal. Am I eligible to enrol?

Study Permit renewal is accepted by NCT as a valid document for enrolment if your renewal is requested before your Study Permit expires. If your renewal was requested after your Study Permit expired, you will lose your status as a student in Canada. You will not be authorized to resume studying or working until you obtain a new valid Study Permit.

How do I upload my visa to enrol in the Winter 2024 Term?

The visa approval document must be uploaded on the Study Permit tab under the “Documents” section on the NCToronto Student Portal.

Watch a step-by-step video on how to submit your visa on NCToronto Student Portal here.

How will I know if my visa document submission was successful?

Once you have successfully uploaded your visa to the NCToronto Student Portal, you will see the word "Submitted" next to the Study Permit tab.

If you click on the arrow next to “Submitted”, you can see all the documents that you uploaded there and can also download each file to make sure that it is the correct document.

What do I do if I encounter issues while trying to upload my visa document?

If you encounter any issues while trying to upload your visa on the NCToronto Student Portal, you should email Enrolment Services immediately at enrolments@niagaracollegetoronto.ca for assistance.

My Study Permit was denied. What are my next steps?

If your Study Permit has been denied, upload a copy of your rejection letter to NCToronto Student Portal and request a deferral on NCToronto Student Portal immediately for one of the next available intakes.

If you have been working with an NCT registered agent, contact them to discuss the reasons your Study Permit was denied and what your next steps are.

If you submitted an application without the assistance of an NCT registered agent and wish to appeal the Study Permit decision, please contact a certified immigration consultant.

What if I receive my Study Permit approval after I have deferred my start date?

If you have completed a deferral, you will not be able to enrol in the Winter 2024 Term classes. You will have to wait until your new intake begins.

If my Study Permit is denied, can I apply for a tuition refund?

For the Winter 2024 Term, students may receive a full tuition fee refund (less a $200 CAD administration fee) within 60-90 business days of NCT’s receipt of your completed withdrawal request, along with any other required documentation and banking information.

To request a refund, visit our Withdrawal & Refund Process webpage or complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to NCToronto Student Portal.
  2. Click “Academic” on the left-hand menu.
  3. Click “Withdrawal Request”.
  4. Fill out the necessary information.
  5. Click “Submit”.

If my visa approval is delayed, will I still be guaranteed a spot in my program of study?

You must submit a valid visa document by 5:00 p.m. EST on December 4th, 2023, to secure your seat at NCT for the Winter 2024 Term.

What are my options in the event I cannot provide a valid visa document by the deadline?

We understand that due to unforeseen circumstances and immigration delays, many students are still eagerly waiting for a response from Canada’s immigration authorities and may be unable to meet this deadline. However, we wish to assure you that you will be presented with a variety of study options once the visa deadline has passed.

I have not applied for my Study Permit for the Winter 2024 Term. Do I still have time?

Visa processing times are currently longer than usual. If you have not submitted your application yet, you will most likely not receive your Study Permit in time for the Winter 2024 Term.

Visa processing times vary according to country. Please refer to the IRCC processing times webpage for more information.
