Dr. Holly Catalfamo, Senior Director Global Education and Training, Niagara College: Lessons in Leadership and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

Holly Catalfamo believes that education and the ability to see the world through a global lens are essential to creating a welcoming and prosperous world. She is the Senior Director of Global Education and Training at Niagara College, a 3M National Teaching Fellow, and a national award-winning educator in Canada, winning the Colleges and Institutes Canada, Leadership Award for Faculty, the Society for Teaching and Learning - College Sector Educator Award, and the Senior Leadership Award from the Human Resources Professional Association. Holly has been a professor, program Coordinator, and Associate Dean with over 20 years of postsecondary experience. A published author in gender equality, she received her Doctor of Education from the University of Toronto with a focus on postsecondary leadership and leadership development.

Sean Kennedy, President, Niagara College

A strong advocate for the value of applied education – in Ontario, Canada and around the world – Sean Kennedy is an experienced postsecondary leader with more than 20 years of experience leading teams in all areas of higher education. Appointed Niagara College’s sixth President in January 2020, Sean has been a member of the College’s senior leadership team since 2006 when he joined NC as Vice President of Student and External Relations, and CEO of the Niagara College Foundation. He completed an interim assignment as Vice President, Academic and served as Senior Vice President, International prior to becoming the College’s President. Prior to joining Niagara College, Sean held various senior roles at Red Deer College and the University of Alberta. Recognized as a leader in international education and student services in Canada, Sean has served on the board of directors of the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), chaired the Colleges Ontario Student Access and Success Coordinating Committee, and co-moderated the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities Summit on Mental Health and Addictions. Active in the community, Sean has served on the boards of the Business Education Council of Niagara, Niagara Sport Commission, Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce, St. Catharines-Thorold Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Niagara, and the Canada Summer Games 2022. Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta and a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University, and is currently completing his Doctoral studies in leadership in higher and adult education and comparative, international and development education at the University of Toronto.

Rashmi Biswas is a co-owner of Lake and Associates Canada Inc., a performance consulting firm specializing in leadership development, team effectiveness, and process facilitation. Working with private and public sector clients Rashmi has delivered services in North America, South America, Asia and the Middle East. Prior experience includes corporate and academic roles in the UK, USA, and Canada. In a volunteer capacity Rashmi serves as a Board member for the Niagara Community Foundation, and she is a co-founder of the Gender Equity Task Force Niagara.

Rashmi holds a Masters degree in Human Resource Management from Sheffield Hallam University (UK.)

Julia Sebastian, MBA, CHRL, CEC

As CEO of HR Off-Site Inc, a full-service Human Resources consulting firm, Julia is passionate about supporting business owners and leaders in achieving sustainable business growth and profitability by providing practical, insightful Human Resources solutions.

Julia is a Human Resources professional with over 25 years’ experience in the private and not-for-profit sectors. She is a proud graduate of the Management of Human Resources program at Niagara College and is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) through the Human Resources Professional Association. She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Australian Institute of Business and is a Certified Executive Coach through Royal Roads University.

Julia’s key areas of expertise include: leadership, strategic planning, attracting and retaining top talent, performance management and optimizing business results.

In conjunction with her duties as CEO of HR Off-Site, Julia is also the current President of the Board of Directors of Community Addictions Services of Niagara (CASON) and Chair of the Human Resources Advisory Committee at Niagara College. Julia has a unwavering commitment to the clients she serves, her community and to educating and mentoring the next generation of Human Resource and business professionals.

Lora Tisi has over 30 years of experience as an International Retailer, leading several Brands business, market share, revenue and profit growth.

Most recently, as President of the RW&CO Brand for Reitmans Canada Limited, delivering 18 Consecutive quarters of sales and margin growth. Menswear results were particularly strong, with Brand collaboration with NHL Superstars, such as PK Subban, Erik Karlsson, Morgan Reilly and Mark Schieffele, resulting in significant sales and market share increases across both genders.

In 2000, Lora became President of American Eagle Outfitters and launched the brand across Canada. The team was successful with the brand launch, opening 46 stores, coast to coast in 108 days, exceeding first year profit targets, and becoming the “Brand of Choice” for Canadian teens.

Prior to American Eagle, Lora spent 17 years building the four banner, two country, 900 store chain, The Northern Group. By leveraging the marquis brand, Northern Reflections, total sales grew to C$1Billion. Unquestionably, the US stores result is a proud achievement, as this success eclipsed any other Canadian apparel entry into the US for sales, growth and profit.

Currently, Lora is exploring her mixed race Six Nations Indigenous Ancestry, creating change, hope, unity and Self Determination for Indigenous Peoples, mentoring First Nation Companies and serving on Boards.
