Academic Delivery Model (Winter 2024 Term)

Niagara College – Toronto (NCT) will continue to deliver programs through a hybrid (HyFlex) learning model for the Winter 2024 term.

  • Is NCT a public college?

NCT is a public college-private partnership (PCPP) and is listed as a designated learning institution (DLI) in Ontario. Our DLI number is O146982877972.

  • How do I apply to NCT?

You may apply to NCT in the following ways:

  1. Submit an application yourself. Simply visit our How to Apply webpage and follow the instructions. If you need assistance at any point, feel free to contact our Student Recruitment department at enquiry@niagaracollegetoronto.ca.
  2. Apply through an NCT registered agent.

  • Where is my class?

Your class locations are listed on your timetable, which can be found by clicking on “Timetable” on the lefthand menu in your NCToronto Student Portal. Classroom numbers can be found in the dark blue bubbles in the bottom-left corner of each class block on your timetable.

 

  • How do I attend my online classes?

A link to your online class will be posted on Canvas.

 

  • When do I get access to Canvas?

After confirming your timetable, you will receive an email containing your Canvas login credentials, which can be used to activate your account. However, you will not be able to access your classes on Canvas until the week before your classes begin.

  • How can I connect with my course instructors?

The official way to contact faculty members outside of class hours is through Canvas. Simply follow the steps below:

Step 1: Log in to Canvas, using your student email and password.

Step 2: Click on “Inbox” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click the pencil-and-paper icon to compose a new message.

Step 4: Select the course that is taught by the instructor you wish to contact.

Step 5: Click “Teachers” in the “To” field and select the instructor’s name.

Step 6: Compose your message and include an appropriate subject line.

Step 7: Click “Send”.

 

  • Can I change my timetable?

Changes cannot be made to timetables once they have been confirmed. All selected timetables are final.

 

  • How can I download my payment receipt?

Receipts are generated automatically and take 10 business days to be issued. Once your payment has been confirmed, you will receive a copy of the payment receipt via your personal email address.

The payment receipt will also be available for download in the “Issued Letters” section of your NCToronto Student Portal account. Follow these step-by-step instructions to access it:

Step 1: Log in to NCToronto Student Portal using your student identification (ID) and password.

Step 2: Click on “Finances” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click on “Visit Services Portal” in the top-right corner. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Click on “View Payment Receipt Summary”.

 

  • How can I get my Confirmation of Enrolment letter?

Your Confirmation of Enrolment letter will be available on your NCToronto Student Portal account after day 10 of your classes. To download it, please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Log in to NCToronto Student Portal using your student ID and password.

Step 2: Click on “Finances” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click on “Visit Services Portal” in the top-right corner. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Scroll down to the “Request Forms” section.

Step 5: Click on “Current Confirmation of Enrolment Letter”. A PDF file will download to your device automatically.

 

  • I changed my phone number and am no longer receiving a verification code to access the NCToronto Student Portal. What should I do?

Please send an email to our IT Helpdesk at support@nctorontostudents.ca and include your new phone number. The IT team will reset your multi-factor authentication (MFA) within 24-48 hours.

In the meantime, when you navigate to the NCToronto Student Portal page where you are prompted to use a  verification code, there are two options under the “Verify” and “Cancel” buttons for logging in with your “secondary authentication method” or “proceeding with the security question” — please use one of these methods to log in while you wait to have your phone number restored.

If you are unable to access your secondary authentication method and cannot remember the answer to your security question, you must wait for the IT team to reset your MFA before you can log in again. Once your access has been restored, please remember to update your MFA information and to use a security question you can easily recall.

  • How can I pay my tuition fees?

Please visit the NCT Payments webpage for information on accepted payment methods or watch our step-by-step video on how to make a payment via CIBC.

 

  • The fees indicated on my Letter of Acceptance (LOA) are different from my final invoice. Is this correct?

The amount indicated on your LOA is an estimate which is subject to change without prior notice. Any changes in fees will be reflected on your invoice once the term begins. To see an accurate balance on your student account, please follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Log in to NCToronto Student Portal using your student ID and password.

Step 2: Click on “Finances” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click on “Visit Services Portal” in the top-right portion of the screen. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Scroll down to the “Upcoming Fees and Due Dates” section.

Step 5: Click on “Print Current Year Invoice”. A PDF file will download to your device automatically.

 

  • Can I pay in installments?

Only returning students may pay in installments, as long as the full tuition for the next term is paid by the payment deadline.

 

  • What scholarship(s) can I apply for as a currently enrolled student?

The Academic Excellence Bursary is awarded to returning students who have successfully completed their first, second or third term with a GPA of 90% or above. This bursary cannot be transferred or combined with any entrance scholarship. Eligible students will find this bursary automatically applied to their student account after Day 10 of classes.

  • According to my Letter of Acceptance (LOA), I received a scholarship and got a discount for paying a full year, but it is not showing on my account. What should I do?

Scholarships and discounts will be visible on your Statement of Account after the last day to withdraw (Day 10) of your classes has passed.

You can access your Statement of Account by following these instructions:

Step 1: Log in to NCToronto Student Portal using your student ID and password.

Step 2: Click on “Finances” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click on “Visit Services Portal” in the top-right portion of the screen. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Click on “Statement of Account” under the “View my Account information” section.

 

  • I have a credit on my NCToronto Student Portal. How can I request a refund?

You can request a refund of a payment above and beyond your tuition fees by sending an email to intlfees@niagaracollegetoronto.ca.

Please note that if eligible, the refund will be issued after the last day to withdraw (Day 10 of classes) has passed in your final term, and only if you have no future applications on file.

 

  • How can I request an Academic Scheduled Break Letter (“drop letter”)?

A request from your employer is required in order to receive an Academic Scheduled Break Letter (drop letter). Students currently on a break may request an Academic Scheduled Break Letter (drop letter).

  • Is the break (“drop”) in my program mandatory? Can I choose my break (“drop”) period?

Yes, there is a mandatory break, commonly referred to as a “drop”, in between the second and third terms for students enrolled in a 2-year program. You cannot choose to skip this, nor can you choose an alternate period to take the mandatory break.

 

  • I am in my last term. When will I get my Confirmation of Graduation Letter (COG), Transcript and Graduation Certificate?

Your COG will be available one week after you complete your program, and your Transcript will be available 3-4 weeks after you complete your program. You will receive a Graduation Certificate at your convocation ceremony.

Step 1: Log in to NCToronto Student Portal using your student ID and password.

Step 2: Click on “Finances” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click on “Visit Services Portal” in the top-right portion of the screen. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Scroll down to “Request Forms”.

Step 5: Click on “Confirmation of Graduation Letter and Transcript”.

 

  • How can I request an Invitation Letter for my guest(s) to attend my convocation?

To request Invitation Letters for each of your guests, please email the following information about your guest to studentservices@niagaracollegetoronto.ca:

  • Guest’s name (as it appears on their passport): 
  • Nationality: 
  • Date of birth (month-day-year):
  • Passport number: 
  • Estimated date of arrival to Canada: 
  • Arrival flight number: 
  • Estimated date of departure from Canada: 
  • Departure flight number: 

 

  • How can I download my T2202 form?

You can access and download your T2202 form from NCToronto Student Portal by following the steps below:

Step 1: Log in to NCToronto Student Portal using your student ID and password.

Step 2: Click on “Finances” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click on “Visit Services Portal” in the top-right portion of the screen. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Scroll down to the “Tax Information” section.

Step 5: Click on the T2202 drop-down menu and select the desired year for which you wish to download the form. If there are no options in the drop-down menu, that means your T2202 form is not ready yet.

Please note:

  • Tax forms in Canada, including T2202, are issued at the beginning of the following calendar year for which they refer to. For example, if you are looking for your T2202 for 2023’s fees, it will be available in February 2024.
  • You will need to provide your social insurance number (SIN) for your T2202 form. If you have not already done so, please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Log in to NCToronto Student Portal using your student ID and password.

Step 2: Click on “Finances” on the lefthand menu.

Step 3: Click on “Visit Services Portal” in the top-right portion of the screen. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Click on “Submit my Social Insurance Number (used for tax forms)”.

Step 5: Type in your SIN.

Step 6: Check the “I consent to the use of my Social Insurance Number for tax purposes by Niagara College” box.

Step 7: Click “Save”.

 

  • How can I access my health insurance plan?

You will receive your guard.me insurance account information by email around 15 business days after the start of your first term. This email will include instructions for you to create a guard.me account, where you will be able to access your policy number, submit claims, find clinics, and more.

Please note: if you are enrolled in a 2-year program, you will get a new policy number in your third term.

 

  • How can I find a doctor?

guard.me offers two ways to access medical services:

  1. Connect with doctors in Canada online through mobileDOCTOR.
  2. Search for clinics within 25 kilometres of any address using the Find a Canadian Clinic

  • What is the minimum grade point average (GPA) required to graduate?

For students in diploma programs, the minimum GPA to graduate or to progress to the next term is 60%. For students in post-graduate programs, the minimum GPA to graduate or to progress to the next term is 65%. You need to maintain the minimum GPA each term.

 

  • What should I do if I fail a course?

If you are in a situation where you have failed a course or are at risk of failing a course, please book a one-on-one appointment with an Academic Advisor at academicadvising@niagaracollegetoronto.ca.

  • How do I find out about events happening at NCT?

  • How can I join one of NCT’s student clubs?

NCT offers various clubs and sports teams to help students have fun, make friends, and develop new skills.

To join a club, suggest a new club, or to find out what clubs are currently available, contact our Student Engagement team by email at clubs@niagaracollegetoronto.ca.

 

  • Is there a Library at NCT?

NCT has a Library at our 22 College Street Building and a dedicated Library Services department. Our Library Services team provides access to library databases, assistance with finding high-quality research materials, citation support, and a helpful space on-site to facilitate your studies.

  • Will NCT help me find a co-op position?

Our Career Services department offers a variety of resources and tools to support you with securing a co-op placement through job fairs, career-skills workshops, and job search tools such as Devant. However, you must secure a co-op position on your own.

  • Does NCT provide support to students applying for a study permit extension or co-op work permit?

NCT provides support navigating Canada’s immigration policies through our team of Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCIC) in our Immigration Student Advising (ISA) department.
