In an effort to provide innovative housing solutions benefitting multiple demographics and communities, Niagara College – Toronto is proud to announce its collaboration with SpacesShared, a pioneering online home-sharing platform. This partnership seeks to offer students safe, affordable housing and enhance community engagement through SpacesShared's expertise in matching compatibilities among students and hosts.

Partnered with over 20 post-secondary institutions across Canada, SpacesShared is a novel home-sharing technology that uses a sophisticated algorithm and experienced team to match compatible students and hosts interested in home sharing. The company was launched in 2023 as a response to Canadian housing challenges, introducing a solution that prioritizes connection, comfort and community.

“We're thrilled to embark on this partnership with SpacesShared, expanding housing options for our students and fostering a dynamic living experience,” shared Mina Tadrous, Campus Director of Niagara College – Toronto.

“We strive to make aging in place a comfortable reality for older adults, while also ensuring safe and affordable home-sharing solutions for them, as well as students,” said Rylan Kinnon, CEO of SpacesShared. “Our matching platform has already inspired many success stories, affirming its value in alleviating social isolation and supporting both students and hosts.”

SpacesShared strives to keep safety and security of the home-sharing partners as the topmost priority. As a standard practice, SpacesShared verifies the identity of each host, the home address and whether the host actually lives in the home. The team also conducts a criminal background check on each host before the home-sharing agreement can be finalized. Moreover, SpacesShared also verifies personal identity, email address, phone number and student status.

Become a host

“We understand that inviting someone into your home may seem daunting, but at SpacesShared, we are dedicated to making this transition smooth, helping you to build enriching and long-lasting connections," said Kinnon. "I encourage older adults considering home sharing to explore how SpacesShared can seamlessly fit into their lives. If you’re interested in home sharing, curious or think it could be good for you, try it for a month. Try it for a semester. You might really enjoy it."

About SpacesShared

SpacesShared is a home sharing technology platform that empowers two key groups to meet each other: older adults and students. Launched in 2023, SpacesShared is responding to the Canadian housing situation with a solution that prioritizes connection, comfort, and community. Students looking for a safe, affordable place to stay can now quickly and affordably connect with older adult hosts who would like some extra income, help around the house, and an opportunity to give back. The platform is entirely self-contained from application, to agreement, rent and relationship management on its website. It’s a new way to honour an old tradition: opening homes to people and experiences that enrich lives and communities.
