Dr. Donald N. Baker as Dean of Business and Hospitality

Niagara College – Toronto (NCT) is excited to welcome Dr. Donald N. Baker, as Dean of Business and Hospitality for NCT programs. Dr. Baker has a broad range of experience in the strategic direction of higher education, being a part of major executive roles within the Education industry in Canada and the Middle East.

In Canada, Dr. Baker was the President of Mount Royal College (now University), Vice-President, Academic of Wilfrid Laurier University and Director of the Secretariat for Ontario’s Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB). In addition, Dr. Baker has held full-time teaching positions at Stanford, Michigan State University, University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University.

Over the past few years, Dr. Baker has spent much of his time in Middle Eastern universities. Whether it was as Dean and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at United Arab Emirates University, or Advisor to the President of Qatar University, or as Executive Dean of the Qatar campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Baker possesses a stellar track record of working with distinguished institutions of all sizes, structures, and disciplines.

Dr. Baker has also authored four books related to strategic academic direction and has worked on projects in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan and Qatar. To further substantiate his expertise in the world of academia, Dr. Baker served as a member and secretary of the International Association of Assurance Agencies for Higher Education (INQAAHE) and on the international team that reviewed the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI).

Dr. Baker’s extensive expertise compliments our award-winning faculty in support of the development of future industry leaders: our students. He is the embodiment of our high quality academics and reflects our commitment to cultivating skilled talent through fostering excellence throughout our faculties, staff and in extension, our students. As part of the team, Dr. Baker will be providing academic mentorship, leadership, and direction to the Department of Academic Affairs. He will also be leading, coordinating and managing the academics and operational affairs of the Business and Hospitality programs delivered at NCT.
